Aepona is engaged in bringing software based solutions into a broad range of customer environments around the world. We have a comprehensive set of products that can be deployed as either standard, or with customizations to meet customer needs. This often requires the bringing together of multiple hardware and software components to form a ‘solution stack’. It is this solution that we then deploy, and then integrate into customer environments. The solution will communicate via a wide range of network protocols, and make use of a variety of open source and industry leading middleware. As such the Deployment Engineer should have a multi-disciplinary skill set, capable of not only understanding the solution and how it sits in the network, but also be able to install and configure to the required level, troubleshoot any issues and demonstrate the solution to the customer by executing agreed level of testing. Deployment of new systems/features can take place in either green field or mature systems, meaning often the Deployment Engineer will be working on upgrading live systems.

Responsibilities

• Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
• Gain and maintain a thorough understanding of the technologies used by AePONA products and, in particular, system deployment in telecommunications networks.
• Undertake installation, commissioning and acceptance testing of software and hardware within a growing worldwide customer base thus delivering a successful implementation and support services to all our customers.
• Play an active role within the Deployment Team and Company and maintain a close working relationship with the Test, Support and Maintenance Teams.
• Plan the integration work and testing of the system for successful roll-out to customer networks.
• Build relationships with customers and other team members to ensure the effective deliveries to customers.
• Be able to create customer facing technical documentation such as test specifications that can be used for both internal and external use.
• Assist in building out Best Practices for the Deployment Function by contributing to Knowledge Management.
• Collect and log important on-site information and contact details and ensure successful handover to the Maintenance and Support Teams.
• Deliver informal and formal training to designated customer staff.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

• Degree level education in Computer Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
• At least 3+ years hands-on experience of deploying systems on telecommunications networks.
• Proven experience in testing large-scale software systems.
• Proven experience in Sun Solaris and Linux installation and configuration.
• Experience in Unix Shell Scripting.
• Experience in SQL and SQL Scripting.
• Experience in Red Hat EnterpriseLinux.
• Experience in SS7 Configuration.
• Knowledge/experience of Firewalls and TCP/IP addressing.
• Knowledge/experience of HTML/HTTP.
• Good hardware skills.
• Good fault diagnosis ability.
• Willingness and availability to travel extensively throughout the world.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Criteria:

• At least 3+ years hands-on experience of deploying systems on telecommunications networks.
• Experience in Redhat & Oracle Cluster Installation.
• Experience in Oracle 11 RAC administration.
• Experience with Web Servers.
• Experience with Telecom Web Services.
• Experience deploying Geo-Redundant Systems.
• Experience in Corba/Orbix and Artix/CXF.
• Foreign language skills may be an advantage.
