A degree in Computer Science or other relevant engineering discipline. At least 8 years experience in software product development.

Overall purpose of the role:

  • Assist the Product Manager to manage, plan and successfully execute the Payments and Settlements product
  • Prepare Detail Product Requirements at the level that is understandable by the engineering team to come up with work package estimates
  • Be available to the engineering team to discuss requirements and alternative implementations and engage in design discussions/decisions
  • Ensure decisions made on the product does not adversely limit the capabilities of the product in the future

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive the technical requirements process in an iterative and incremental software development life cycle.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to communicate technical product requirements, understand the impact that these requirements have on the architecture and design of the system, and adjust requirements as appropriate to optimize the return on our engineering investment.
  • Assist the Payments product manager in product roadmap creation to support product strategy and go-to-market. Conceptualise software that will successfully execute the product roadmap and satisfy product requirements.
  • Cultivate an expertise in the emerging and evolving technologies and standards that are relevant to the product. Provide recommendations as to how the company should respond to changes in the industry's technological landscape.
  • Research third-party software tools, platforms, and frameworks that may help satisfy our product requirements. Provide purchase recommendations and work with engineering to ensure that we integrate the software in a manner that enables us to maximize ROI for our software purchases.
  • Write clear technical specifications that utilize an appropriate balance of functional requirements, non-functional requirements, use cases to communicate complete, consistent, unambiguous, detailed requirements to our software and quality assurance engineers.
  • Provide a focal point for communicating and evangelising the Payments architecture and technology strategy to other functions within.
  • Work to prioritize new opportunities relative to their overall business impacts
  • Support the sales team on specific RFQ/RFP as assigned by the product manager
  • Maintain expert level knowledge of the product and general market developments in the payment space in technology terms.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • At least 8 years experience in software product development.
  • At least 5 years professional experience in a customer-facing role including: working on site with customers to capture product requirements and customer issue management.
  • Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to write unambiguous technical requirements.
  • Good knowledge of design principles and of standard telecom architectures.
  • Domain expertise in third party billing and financial systems.
  • The ability to demonstrate awareness of effective team working together with strong communication and organizational skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working as part of a Product Management team preferably within the Telecom sector.
  • Experience of working with or for mobile operators is an advantage.
  • Experience in Business Case production including financial modelling
  • Working knowledge of SOAP/ REST / JSON.
  • Knowledge and experience of project planning tools such as Microsoft Project Server.
