The International Committee of the Red Cross, are hunting down an adroit, eager, energetic, taught, experienced result organized and dynamic,suitable contender for the post of Habitat Architect.

Habitat Architect

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent international organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC has been working in Sri Lanka since 1989. The ICRC Delegation has an opening for the above post in their Water and Habitat (WatHab) department in Colombo.The Water and Habitat Department of ICRC is in charge of supporting the Sri Lanka authorities (Department of Prison, DoP) to ensure that the living conditions in the place of detentions are in line with international standard.

Duties

  • Participates to assessment visit of Places of detentions (Prisons) and joint evaluation of priorities, drafting and negotiating plan of action.
  • Develops and submits project proposals including technical designs, BoQ and budget.
  • Organised and facilitate workshop to share experiences and provide technical training.
  • Draft and review architectural brief and layout using a participatory approach with concerned users and responsible of the DoP.
  • Supervises construction related ICRC activities in places of detention (Prisons): planning and implementation of all projects/programs including financial follow-up.
  • Coordinates with members of other ICRC departments to ensure good synergies.
  • Participates in internal and external meetings (workshop, drafting of plan of actions).
  • Represents the ICRC and maintains regular contacts with local authorities, prison authorities, contractors and beneficiaries. 
  • Familiar with ICTAD process and able to follow up tender process, evaluation of tender and selection of contractors according to ICRC procedures.

Requirements

  • Registration Sri Lanka Institute of Architecture.
  • 2 to 4 years field experience as an asset.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Sinhala.
  • Knowledge in Tamil as an asset.
  • Good computer skills including Autocad.

Starting date: Immediate
Duration of employment: Initially for one year and renewable
